They’re trying to shut down Ben’s Blog

I’ve just discovered Ben’s Blog. It is currently the only Blog being written by a serving British Prisoner and it is good.

I mean really good, by reading it you are presented with a view on society which you could never have had before.

Like NightJack, he writes from a perspective which is currently unique and with honesty which is also somewhat disturbing.

Prisoners are not allowed internet access so Ben publishes through letters sent to his friends on the outside, who post it all on blogger.

The screws are trying to ban him, and must be stopped.

From Jail House Layer:

News has emerged within the last half an hour from within HM Prison Shepton Mallet, that yesterday the prison Governor has stopped a letter written by the author of Ben’s Prison Blog from going out of the prison and has instead been placed in the prisoner’s stored property in Reception.

It is understood that the letter was addressed to Ben’s missus, who visited Ben at the prison this afternoon. It is being reported that when Ben asked for a reason, he was told that “the content is interesting enough to be published on the internet” and on this ground it was stopped from leaving the prison.

This is worrying for bloggers and for anyone interested in Prisoner rights (if you’re not interested in Prisoner’s rights, I’d direct you to this post). This sort of censorship should not be tolerated.
