Left Outside

"In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia. "

Speaking as a cyclist, [1] Dan Maes is a moron

Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes is warning voters that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s policies, particularly his efforts to boost bike riding, are “converting Denver into a United Nations community.”

“This is all very well-disguised, but it will be exposed,” Maes told about 50 supporters who showed up at a campaign rally last week in Centennial.

Maes said in a later interview that he once thought the mayor’s efforts to promote cycling and other environmental initiatives were harmless and well-meaning. Now he realizes “that’s exactly the attitude they want you to have.”

“This is bigger than it looks like on the surface, and it could threaten our personal freedoms,” Maes said.

This man is nuts – he is not even joking. The Republican Party needs to be shut down and, if its absolutely necessary to replace it, reopened under the reanimated corpse of Abraham Lincoln.

Perhaps you get the politicians you deserve, from later in the same piece…

Polls show that Maes, a Tea Party favorite, has pulled ahead of former Congressman Scott McInnis, the early frontrunner in the Aug.

[1] For those who aren’t quite on my wavelength, I am thinking of the Bill Bailey sketch in which he riffs off the all too often heard phrase “speaking as a mother” which often means someone who is “speaking as someone who has abandoned all rational thought” yet whose opinions are treated as valid.
