Too much Stat Porn will make you go Blind: UPDATE

When I started blogging I thought that I would resist the descent into Stat Porn; mostly because it seems a little vain. Unfortunately I have very little to be vain about so I don’t think it can really hurt. It’s a cheap and easy post and at least it will keep me off the streets.

I don’t currently run Google analytic on my Blog, as I need my own domain to do that, so I have to make do with what WordPress provide. This of course means that I cannot distinguish between total hits and individual visitors, so not only is this post uninteresting, it is also uninformative…

So, relaxing with a glass of possibly corked Aussie Shiraz on a quiet Friday night, I pour over my WordPress stats.

The Money Shot

In the last 11 weeks I have received a total of 2,183 page hits. This works out to an average of 30 a day, which seems pretty good to me. [1] My best day by far was Tuesday 7th July, when Twitter sent drove my daily daily total up to 132 hits. It’s shameless and vain but it made me feel good.

I started on the 27th of April and those last four days of April saw just 34 hits, and I am fairly confident that a lot of those were me… My first full month saw 564 hits and week on week the numbers reassuringly continued to grow. My ego stoked, I deceided not to quit and in June I hit a total of 1,144 page views. July has so far seen 442 hits and is on it’s way to being my best month yet.

My most successful post by far has been The Logic and Lunacy of Kim Jong-il which has received a total of 701 page views. Most of these have come courtesy of Google searches and has its popularity has been helped by being cross posted at LibCon.

I wish I was… Taking Skinheads Bowling is a new post and has already reached a healthy 123 while my old post on Why I’ll be voting Green on June 4th has a reassuring 88.

Save the best ’til last

The  most entertaining bit of collecting stats for my blog has easily been the search terms which draw people here. As you would expect “North Korea” has been the term to drive the most to my blog, but there have also been some rather odd traffic too.

The best ones are always the most obscure, or idiotic, and these three deserve some sort of award. The fact that someone was interested in international politics but couldn’t spell koria at night baffles me. The man looking for the strongest legal drugs must have been pretty disppointed when he got here. But the weirdest search term? That has to be Why are there Retards?

There may be more stat porn next month, but hopefully more proper posts too.

UPDATE: Someone reached this blog by googling, and I shit you not, iq bowling + netherlands. What where they even looking for?

UPDATE II: Um…. recently, attracted to this page has been how long can you go blind from porn? oh dear…

[1] Old Holborn received 3,348 hits in his first July last year alone so I may be progressing a little slowly.
